Self-empowerment is the state of living at your highest potential, and it is the ultimate goal of holistic healing. Most people do not live anywhere near their potential. Instead, they may suffer physically, with chronic pain and illness, and most people suffer emotionally, mentally and spiritually, with various forms of stress.
To live at your best, you have to understand first, what it means to be self-empowered; second, why most people are not self-empowered; and third, how you personally can become more self-empowered.
What is being self-empowered?
When you are fully self-empowered, you live optimally. On a physical level, you enjoy abundant health and you feel alive and radiant. On emotional and mental levels, you feel balanced, calm, poised and focused. Spiritually, you feel dedicated to a purpose that fulfills you while also being of service to others. You are one hundred percent free of stress. You live with little or no fear, based in serenity and joy.
Why aren’t most people self-empowered?
Most people are not fully self-empowered for two reasons.
First, their upbringing doesn’t provide them with the tools for achieving empowerment. These tools are an important focus of work in holistic healing and stress relief.
Second, they live in a culture that encourages them to accept fear, anxiety and stress as inescapable aspects of life. They let stress and fear control them because they don’t realize that it is possible to live free of these feelings. The fear they feel, and its accompanying stress, can be anything: fear of disease, fear of financial loss, fear of abandonment, fear of being manipulated, fear of not being accepted, fear of failure, fear of success, generalized anxiety, fear of aging, and so on.
Unfortunately, fear, along with the stress it creates, makes you live as the victim of forces that you perceive as beyond your control. Anyone who wants to become more self-empowered has to decide that they are determined to feel better than they do, that they can have greater control over the quality of their life, and that they are willing to work on gradually reducing the power that fear and stress have over them.
Living a healthier life is learning to confront and overcome, one step at a time, the stress patterns that govern your life. These stress patterns are all part of living in a society that fosters competition, constant rushing and doing, performance anxiety, endless crises, and so on.
Once you realize that you would rather not listen to the voices of stress, anxiety, fear and frustration, and want instead to become healthier, happier and more self-directed, you are on the road to self-empowerment. You decide that you are going to learn and practice the tools that will help you eliminate tension, anxiety, frustration and all forms of stress from your life.
How can you empower yourself?
Many of the most famous psychological, philosophical and spiritual systems of the ages address the issue of helping people both to let go of all forms of stress and to attain full self-empowerment. While their languages may differ, most of them are remarkably similar in the tools they provide.
